The Sony Ericsson P1i comes with Quickoffice installed on your phone. Quickoffice is a mobile open-source alternative to the Microsoft Office for Mobile suite.
Using Quickword, Quicksheet and Quickpoint within Quickoffice you can open and easily edit Microsoft Office Excel and Word documents as well as Powerpoint presentations. Find out more from Quickoffice for UIQ.

At first my response was going to be a major let-down, but, thankfully SomeOne ported Steves ENes for the A920/A925/A1000 emulator to the UIQ platform.
So, yes, you can play .nes game files on your Sony Ericsson P1i by emulating the software with ENes for UIQ

Hi Sai,
The Sony Ericsson P1i runs on Symbian OS, it cannot open *.exe files and as such cannot be infected by traditional Windows viruses. In saying that, in the future there may be viruses in the wild that exploit both Symbian OS and any software on your P1i, for example Quick Office or a utility.
Just like on a computer be careful with what you download and be sensible when installing new applications by backing up your phone.

The Sony Ericsson P1i doesn’t have GPS built-in like some other phones on the market, so I’m taking a stab that you have been given a Bluetooth GPS receiver which connects to the Sony Ericsson P1i. Take a look at Does the Sony Ericsson P1i support in-car GPS navigation.
You’ll need to install the software on your computer, then transfer the phone application to your Sony Ericsson P1i. This will then link to your GPS receiver and allow the phone application to provide GPS overlays.

I’ll have to look into it but I’m confident P1i themes are stores in a user-restricted directory in phone memory. To apply a theme place the *.utz file either in an accessible folder in either phone memory or on your M2 memory stick and work from there…
If the *.utz file is not applying it could be corrupted or built for a previous/future version of UIQ.

I use Bluetooth regularly to transfer files where wireless connectivity is not available (no access point for 801.11B).
What software are you using to manage your computer’s Bluetooth connection, I use Bluesoleil 5, it’s perfect for Windows XP/Vista. I believe you devices must be paired to transfer files, a message is a bit different.

I’ve never encountered an error message like that before. Try hard-resetting your phone or taking it to a Sony Ericsson repair shop to get looked at. My initial concern is the onboard camera is damaged, do video-phone calls with the main camera work? It’s worth a try as it will confirm whether this is a software or hardware fault.

There is no ‘emulator’ for *.exe applications for the P1i, nor will there ever be. The application would essentially run Windows on your phone, even a Windows Mobile emulator is unrealistic.
I’m confident there are workarounds, you could use your 3G or wireless connection to access the Forex web service (if available) as well as commission a Symbian application which acts as an interface to the Forex platform. Have a look around and let me know how you get on.

I am unaware of any touch dialer applications for the Sony Ericsson P1i, there is huge demand for one though! Take a look at the Sony Ericsson P1i application market, you may be able to purchase a third-party product or motivate another developer to create a touch dialer.
I’m stacked up to my neck with projects but will be looking into developing a free application (with skinning support) so I can have the ‘iPhone experience’… and be lazy by avoiding the keyboard.

My (hopefully not silly question): I can add a spoken name to every contact in my adressbook, so far I know how to maanage it.
But can I activate this contact by “yelling” this ree corded name to P1i (I had this option for the Motorola Razr ). Sorry, but I did´nt find anything about that in the (german) manual.

I recommend you do a hard reset, if it’s new as you said then you will not lose any critical data. Otherwise contact Sony Ericsson directly and have the unit serviced as they will be able to repair it for you.
I hope this helps, the symptoms you’re experiencing doesn’t sound good for a new phone.

Are you sure you’re using signed .SIS applications, these are the standard file format for the Sony Ericsson P1i. There is third-party software available for signing un-signed mobile applications, I haven’t been able to understand it as yet but it’s on my list of to-do’s!
I use the included media player for my music and video needs, there are other third-party solutions available, I’ll make a list for you.

I also have anoop’s and Kalpak’s problem. I still can’t find the Themes folder under Phone Memory. I created a new folder under Other and then named it “Theme”. Just don’t know if this will work

I dont have any particular link, what i do is i download random video and convert the format to H.263 and play it on my p1i, but as i mentioned earlier it never worked properly. The only video formats that i could play are wmv and 3gp. I even couldnt play .mp4 which is strange.

Yes, you can listen to music playing on your Sony Ericsson P1i by purchasing any headset that supports A2DP.
cNet Australia recently wrote a great write-up covering the Top Bluetooth headphones to enjoy your music wirelessly, have a read.
I have a pair of Blueant X5 Stereo Bluetooth Headset that I use at work as well as the Motorola S805 for use at home. Both are great models that work well with the Sony Ericsson P1i.

thanks for all the help! am now able to use downloaded themes on my P1i. i think the only problem i had was that the theme files am trying to install before were not .utz files. when i learned of it, i looked for .utz theme files on the net, had them downloaded and saved on a folder in the memstick, searched for it through File Manager, clicked on View and it readily gave me the option to Install the theme and to use it right away or not
never thought it’s just that easy!

I did some digging for you and the third-party UIQ application ALON Audio Recorder might do the job, otherwise have you tried making a call and using the built-in Sound Recorder?
I tried the built-in SR - but it’s not working..

You need to install Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones on your computer, this will allow you to ’sync’ e-mails from your Sony Ericsson P1i to your PC. You can manage messages within the Message Centre.
The software you need has been included on the CD provided, I hope this helps!

Problem with P1i restarting

My p1i restarts sometimes when my alarm goes off, this happens for the clock, calendar and reminders. the first few times it happened it said that it restarted to improve performance, now it just restarts without giving any message. I don’t want to go through the hassle of having to do a complete restore/refresh.

I have the same problem as others, I cannot install .sis files on my P1i. What seems to be the problem? I tried using the PC Suite and copying the file to the mem stick and then installing it but nothing worked.
I am also having a problem with connecting my fone to the PC. When I select File Transfer mode, PC Suite recognizes my fone. But when I choose Phone mode, it doesn’t recognize it. I don’t know if it’s a bug or something.

There’s not much you can do if the touch screen is defective, I have never encountered the touch functionality “dropping out” so it’s more than likely a hardware fault. Return your Sony Ericsson P1i to the store you purchased it from or alternatively contact Sony Ericsson support and send it in for warranty repairs.
Your power management issue is also a mystery, have you checked your screen settings? You can do this from Main Menu > Control Panel > Device > Backlight, switch to the Brightness tab and adjust the scroll bar. I typically get 2-3 days of power out of my Sony Ericsson P1i.

I’m going to have to look at how I install SIS applications on my Sony Ericsson P1i. Off the top of my head I download the SIS file off the Internet, save it to my Desktop then open Sony Ericsson PC Suite and use the Application Installer or double-click the SIS application which has a file extension association with the Application Installer.
It sounds like you’re having driver issues, update your Sony Ericsson P1i to the latest version using the Update Client available from the Sony Ericsson support page then uninstall and completely re-install the Sony Ericsson PC Suite (restart the computer after uninstalling the PC Suite).

change the file extension to .sis before installation. that should help. teh pc suite does not recognize the .sisx ectension but .sisx applications should work on the P1i.
I was able to install a sis application already, maybe the file I was trying to install before was corrupted, I don’t know. Anyway, I looked the Update Service on the SE website and it said that I have to backup everything on my phone memory. Is that really necessary? I don’t want to lose any data.

Everytime I’ve updated my phone’s firmware the upgrade has been flawless and I’ve kept all my personal files, but, I imagine they’re keeping on the safe side by recommending a full backup just incase…
Orjan, I’ve never tried changing the extension of a .sisx file. I’ll need to look into it further as I’m confident there must be differences between the file extensions.

can someone please tell me why the videos from youtube dont work? I open the site with no problem, i search whatever i want with no problem, but when i clik ‘watch video’ just doesnt want to open them. the player opens, it says that its fully loaded but its not opening the video.
Does anyone knows what do I need to install so I can watch the youtube videos? Or how can I watch the .swf files?

This is an easy one. Open Main Menu > Control panel > Call settings > Show or hide number. Ensure “Show my number” is selected and press Save.
Alcodo, I have an Australian P1i and have no problem opening Youtube videos on my Sony Ericsson P1i. Are you sure you’re using the mobile version of Youtube and not the standard-viewing version. Also, ensure that you reset your Opera settings to support mobile browsing and formatting as this will help.
The Sony Ericsson P1i does not support Shockwave Flash (SWF) file types, yet. There is alot of discussion about the release of an upgrade (reg. FlashLite) from Sony Ericsson that will allow for this in the near future, we can only wait for now.

I get you now. As far as I’m aware the calling scene cannot be modified, by standard you will either see the calling number if no contact is linked otherwise the caller’s name will be displayed as well as the assigned contact image if available.
I would love to be able to customize the default Sony Ericsson P1i screen further, adding calling number for instance would be an excellent addition.

All I can recommend is you download the Sony Ericsson Upgrade Client from the Sony Ericsson website and fingers crossed a firmware upgrade is available for your region that includes support for playing Youtube videos.

If you’ve installed the application on your Sony Ericsson P1i all you need to do now is open Main Menu > Tools, your new application will be available in this menu. From here you can move the icon to a more appropriate menu section (e.g. Entertainment, Office, etc.).

Further to my last comment, if you want to add your new application to the front-screen on your Sony Ericsson P1i you will want to select an existing icon and from the bottom-right corner of the screen open More > Replace and follow the prompts. I have added many day-to-day applications to my front-screen using this method.

Sorry to post it here but please help, ‘ Delete the corrupted java game icon in tools menu for SE p1i, master reset unable to delete it’ Problem occur when phone closed accidentally while unistallation ( jv game) is still in progress, open it result in error message “Application Couldn’t be Started” I have tried reinstall the game again and uninstall it after that but it didn’t work.
So, I choose master reset but still didn’t work. ( the game icon picture is gone & replaced with blue diamond shape icon with the same file name ).
Note: This icon file locate in tools folders, not found on file transfer mode or file manager and unable delete it via computer.
I know this problem didn’t caused any harm to the phone function but I want to get rid of it, please help or e-mail your valuable suggestion to here ( nktia85@yahoo.com ). Thanks.

I’m working my butt off this evening to get the forums back up and working again. I broke it!
I’ll have a think about other ways to nuke any evidence of the application from your device, I would have suggested exactly what you’ve already done. In the meantime you can edit or replace the dashboard icon by selecting it with the side-wheel and choosing Edit or Replace from the menu.

I’m not aware of any software allowing you to send SMS or MMS like those available on Nokia devices for the Sony Ericsson P1i. My Internet has been capped until the 15th but I look forward to downloading a variety of Sony Ericsson applications to see if one allows this functionality, same goes for calling through the device on your computer.

How do I get my Wireless LAN to work? I’ve tried the normal way of connecting and it keeps saying connection failed.
I also have been trying to connect the p1i to my acer aspire one to work as a modem because I have internet service with my cell phone provider. For some reason, the PC suite can’t recognize that my phone is connected but the computer knows that SOMETHING is connected because I can access files if i put it in file transfer mode.

Nabeel, I know you can do a backup of your contacts from your Sony Ericsson P1i using the software manager on your computer. If you have Outlook installed these contacts are visible within your contact list, from here you should be able to import contacts to your phone using Outlook contacts.
Hey Jen, make sure you have the right network settings to match the wireless network you are joining (e.g. fixed or dynamic IP, network password, etc.). I frequently connect to wireless networks without any issues, if it’s a constant issue speak to Sony Ericsson and send your phone in for repairs…
tron, that sucks! You have likely broken the connector between the touch-screen and the mainboard. Contact Sony Ericsson for repairs!
sanay, try Fring as an alternative. It works great on the P1i. I successfully got it working with an Asterisk VoIP server!
